Ukraine’s spy agency is preparing a third attack on the Kerch bridge, which links Russia to annexed Crimea, officials have said, cited by Sky News and The Guardian.

According to one of them, on condition of anonymity, the Ukrainian HUR service plans to decommission the bridge by the end of the second half of 2024. The cited sources say that Kirilo Budanov, the head of military intelligence, already has everything he needs to trigger this plan, and the operation has already been approved by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

The bridge has been targeted twice before by the Ukrainian army. In October 2022, a powerful explosion destroyed a significant part of the construction, and last July, an overnight drone raid by Ukraine caused serious damage to several sections of the road.

Russia is making serious efforts to protect the bridge, which is crucial for the transport of military equipment. Crimea is the first territory stolen by Russia from Ukraine, after its first aggression in 2014.
