According to a statement issued by the District Security Secretariat, the tragic event occurred when a passenger bus overturned on the Capulín-Chalma highway.
The communique issued by the official authorities mentions that, according to preliminary data, 14 people died as a result of the incident, and another 31 were injured.
Pilgrims heading to Chalma were involved in this accident, a confirmation came from the staff of the Command Center of the State of Mexico. Reports indicate that the coach was carrying passengers from San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato state.

Bus full of people, overturned in a precipice
A bus full of passengers plunged into a ravine in Mexico last year, killing at least 18 and injuring nearly 30 people, including children.
According to the first information, there were only passengers from Mexico in the coach. The tragic event took place overnight in northwestern Mexico, according to a local official quoted by Fox News.
The Nayarit prosecutor’s office said the coach fell into a precipice from about 15 meters high. The accident happened in the Mexican state of Nayarit, near a highway that connects Tepic with Puerto Vallarta, a well-known tourist destination.
Following this tragedy, an investigation was initiated to determine the circumstances of the coach’s plunge into the abyss and to identify the victims. All those involved are Mexican tourists, and the official toll is 18 dead and 25 injured.
