New Delhi: The issue of massive forest fires in Uttarakhand has now reached the Supreme Court as a petition has been filed for urgent listing of the matter. The apex court has asked the advocate to circulate an email and says it will consider listing it, reported ANI.

The lawyer informed the Supreme Court that three petitions are pending for four years in court on issues relating to the forest fire.

This comes as fresh forest fires in Nainital, Rudra Prayag and other areas were reported in the hill state which has destroyed 33.34 hectares of forest land.

The Indian Army and Indian Air Force were deployed to contribute to the firefighting efforts last week. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Saturday that Indian Army and Air Force helicopters are helping in controlling the forest fires in the state. The fires reached Nainital on Saturday and engulfed several hectares of green cover.
