On Thursday, the Oradea City Council approved the price increase of the gigacalorie delivered to the population to 527 lei, for consumers from the distribution network, as are the majority in the municipality, and to 477 lei in the case of consumers with their own thermal points.

The measure was taken because, during the spring and summer, the VAT applied to the heating agent was increased, but the residents of Oradea will not bear the increase directly, as it will be covered by subsidies from the local budget.

Birta: “The price billed to the population remains the same”

The new tariffs were adopted with the exclusive vote of the PNL councilors, while the UDMR and PSD representatives abstained.

The tariff increase is caused by the VAT increase to 19%, a level imposed by the 2006 Law on the public service of thermal energy supply, which provides for the application of a percentage reduced to 5% only for the winter period, from November 1 to March 31 , and only for the population.

However, the price increase of the gigacalorie will not affect the residents of Oradea.

According to the Local Council Decision, until the end of October, when the next heating season starts, Termoficare Oradea will bill the population for the heating agent supplied through the distribution networks, at a price of 397 lei per gigacalorie, the same as before.

“The price per gigacalorie billed to the population will remain the same, and the VAT difference will be borne by the municipality of Oradea”, Mayor Florin Birta told the local councillors.

The same subsidy increase measure was applied in other years.

They doubled the subsidy for the population

Thus, starting from April 1, the subsidy per gigacalorie granted from the local budget to the population connected to the distribution network will increase from 68 lei to 130 lei.

In the case of the residents of Oradea who have their own thermal points fed from the transport network of Termoficare, the billing price per gigacalorie will remain 361 lei.

And in this case, the local budget will assume the increase of the subsidy per gigacalorie from 60 lei to 116 lei.

Regarding the heating agent supplied to non-domestic consumers, who did not benefit from a VAT reduced to 5% in winter, the price per gigacalorie will remain at 670 lei for those connected to the transport network. At the same time, in the case of non-domestic consumers supplied with heating from the distribution network, the price per gigacalorie will remain 798 lei.
