“His request for release on bail was rejected today. In a short time, the procedure will begin, the trial in the Maltese courts”, said Alina Gorghiu.

Prince Paul of Romania, sentenced in December 2020 to 3 years and 4 months in prison in the case of the illegal return of the Royal Farm from Băneasa and fled to France, a country that did not extradite him, was caught in Malta on April 28. He was in a luxury hotel with his wife, Lia. Later, he was remanded in custody until May 9.

What are the accusations in the Ferma Băneasa file

Paul of Romania was placed under international prosecution on December 18, 2020, one day after he was definitively sentenced to three years and four months in prison with execution in the case of the illegal retrocession of the Royal Farm from Băneasa and the Snagov forest.

The accusations concerned crimes committed in the period 2006-2013 “in various forms of participation, in the interest of obtaining some properties of special value, among which the Snagov forest and the Royal Băneasa Farm, claimed without right by the defendant Al României Paul Philippe”, the press release stated DNA.

In this case, 18 people were convicted, including Israeli businessmen Tal Silberstein and Beny Steinmetz, and the damage to the state was estimated by the prosecutors at 145 million euros.

After the conviction in the Ferma Băneasa case, Prince Paul fled the country, being spotted in Paris. He was provisionally arrested by the French authorities in 2022, in order to execute the European arrest warrant, but France refused to extradite him.

Who is Paul de Romania?

His father, Carol Mircea Grigore, born in 1920 in Romania, was considered the illegitimate son of Carol II, king of Romania from 1930 until his abdication in 1940, in favor of his younger son, Mihai I.

In December 1947, the royal family was expelled from Romania by the communists, and their properties were confiscated.

Paul Philippe, with French, British and Romanian citizenship, was never recognized as a member of the royal family by his uncle Mihai I, the last king of Romania, who died in 2017.
