A driver believed to have been killed in a car crash in Massachusetts was found next to a bear that appeared to have dragged his body into the woods.

Daniel Ducharme, 31, lost control of his car on Route 91 in Hatfield, hitting the guardrail several times. He then veered off the road and down an embankment, according to the New York Post.

Daniel Ducharme, 31, died in the car accident

Ducharme is believed to have died in the crash — and was “either completely or partially ejected” from the Honda Civic, Massachusetts State Police added.
Another driver alerted police to the remains of the wreck on the roadway around 11 a.m. “When first responders arrived on scene, the deceased occupant of the vehicle was outside the car and a bear was observed in the woods near the scene.” , State Police said, suggesting the animal dragged the driver’s body there.

“The evidence suggests that the bear at some point came into contact with the victim’s body.” The bear left the area while troopers were on scene. Officials could only say that Ducharme was presumed killed in the initial crash.
A full investigation into his death and the accident is ongoing. Ducharme was alone at the time.
