The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) made an important decision regarding the elections in Romania. The authority established that the presidents of the constituency electoral offices establish the order of registration on the ballot papers for the local elections, by drawing lots carried out no later than May 11, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.

The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) established on Wednesday, May 8, that the presidents of the constituency electoral offices establish the order of registration on the ballot papers for the local elections, by drawing lots carried out no later than May 11, 2024, 11 p.m.: 59.

However, this must not be done earlier than the moment of ascertaining the final standing of the candidatures. Afterwards, the resulting order will be recorded in a report.

The BEC also decided that the mayors will establish special places for electoral display. At the same time, they will ensure the placement of distinct electoral panels for the election of members from Romania in the European Parliament and for the election of local public administration authorities.

According to the authority, in the first stage of the drawing of lots to determine the order of registration on the ballots, the following political formations are included:

  • political parties that have as members at least 7 senators or 10 deputies or that obtained parliamentary representation in the previous election;
  • organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities with parliamentary representation;
  • political alliances and electoral alliances made up exclusively of political parties that have as members at least 7 senators or 10 deputies, political parties that obtained parliamentary representation in the previous election and/or organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities with parliamentary representation.

the second stage of the draw

In the second stage of the drawing of lots to determine the order of registration on the ballots are included:

  • political parties and organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities;
  • political alliances and electoral alliances, which participate in local elections and which were not included in the first stage.

Also, the independent candidacies are written on the ballots in distinct squares, in the final part, in the order of registration of the candidacies.

We remind you that the electoral period began on March 12, 2024. April 10, 2024 is the deadline for submitting and registering candidacies for the European Parliament elections.

The electoral campaign will start on May 10 and end on June 8, 2024, at 7:00 a.m. The calendar of actions regarding the local and parliamentary elections of June 9, 2024 is regulated by Government Decision no. 199/2024 regarding the approval of the calendar of actions within the electoral period for local and European parliamentary elections.

Four rounds of elections are held in Romania in 2024:

  • European Parliament;
  • local;
  • parliamentary;
  • presidential.
