1. Beko Romania (formerly Arctic) is the largest manufacturer of household appliances in Romania, according to the company’s website.

Arctic, a famous brand in Romania since the communist period, announced in April 2024 that it is changing its name to Beko Romania. Arctic is currently part of the Turkish group Arçelik, which also owns Beko, and the name change is part of the process by which Arçelik rebrands its global operations under the Beko corporate brand. The Arctic brand will not disappear, the refrigerators will continue to bear this name.

The group owns two factories in Romania, one in Gaesti and one in Ulmi, both in Dâmbovița county.

The Arctic factory in Găesti was established in 1968 to produce refrigerators and refrigeration compressors. Privatized after the Revolution, the company is currently owned by the Arçelik Group, a Turkish multinational that produces small and large household appliances, and owns the Beko and Grundig brands.

According to Arçelik Group, following the investments made in Găesti since 2002, the refrigerator factory has become the largest manufacturer of household appliances in Continental Europe, producing over 44 million refrigerators to date.

As for the Ulmi facility, this is a washing machine factory that was inaugurated in 2019. The factory covers an area of ​​over 700,000 square meters and has a production capacity of 2.2 million machines of washing per year.

At the national level, Beko Romania has over 4,500 employees, including subcontractors. Approximately 84% of Beko Romania’s total production is exported to more than 80 countries. Apart from the two factories, the company also owns 4 warehouses.

In 2023, Beko Romania had a turnover of 686 million euros (approximately 3.4 billion lei), according to the company’s website.

A year before, in 2022, it had a net turnover of almost 3.8 billion lei, according to data from the Ministry of Finance. In that year the company had no profit, recording losses of 141 million lei.

Appliance companies from Romania – De’Longhi

2. De’Longhi is one of the largest manufacturers of household appliances in Romania. The Italian company specialized in the production of small household appliances such as espresso machines, vacuum cleaners, kitchen appliances (toasters, grills, cookers, fryers, etc.), dehumidifiers, heaters and portable air conditioners, owns two factories in Romania.

One of the factories is located in Jucu commune in Cluj county, and the other in Salonta municipality in Bihor county.

Recently, De’Longhi announced that it will open a third factory in Romania, in Satu Mare, where coffee machines will be produced under the De’Longhi brand. The investment amounts to 40 million euros, and in 2024, 350 people will be employed, the number of employees will increase to 800 by the end of next year.

In 2022, De’Longhi Romania had a net turnover of over 2 billion lei, a net profit of 62.5 million lei and 3,409 employees, according to data from the Ministry of Finance.

3. Philips. The Dutch giant Philips is also present in Romania, where it owns a coffee machine factory in Orăștie, in Hunedoara county. Philips took over the factory in 2009, when the Dutch multinational acquired the Italian company Saeco, which also owned the unit in Orăștie.

In 2022, according to data from the Ministry of Finance, Philips Orăștie had a net turnover of almost 1.6 billion lei, a profit of over 62 million lei and 1,639 employees.

Manufacturers of household appliances from Romania – Electrolux

4. Electrolux. The Swedish company producing household appliances, one of the largest in the world, owns a factory in Satu Mare, which it took over in 1997, according to Wikipedia.org.

Here, the company produces household appliances under the Samus brand: stoves, ovens, hoods, refrigerators, stoves, built-in, washing machines, dryers, but also small household appliances (vacuum cleaners, espresso machines, coffee makers, kettles, coffee grinders, toasters, chopper, mixers, sandwich makers, blenders, juicers, electric stoves, electric grills, etc.).

In 2022, Electrolux Romania had a net turnover of almost 884 million lei, a net profit of 12.7 million lei and 865 employees.

Companies producing household appliances – Kärcher

5. Kärcher (under the legal form CER Cleaning Equipment SRL) is one of the most important manufacturers of household appliances in Romania. The German company specialized in the production of vacuum cleaners owns two factories in Curtea de Argeș, with a capacity of over 1 million vacuum cleaners per year, according to the company’s website. Under the Kärcher brand, the factory produces both household and professional vacuum cleaners.

In 2022, the company had a net turnover of over 854 million lei, a net profit of over 5 million lei and 645 employees.

Other large manufacturers of household appliances in Romania are Electroargeş from Curtea de Argeș or Miele Romania (the latter owns a factory in Brașov).
