Because of his Jewish origins, controversy erupted over the rumor that Aaron Taylor-Johnson would be cast as James Bond. Fans are divided over calls for a boycott, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Taylor-Johnson’s potential takeover of the James Bond mantle has sparked enthusiastic support, particularly from Pierce Brosnan, a much-loved former 007. Brosnan, who retained the iconic role throughout the ’90s and early 2000s, publicly expressed his support for Taylor-Johnson, emphasizing the actor’s mastery and the importance of continuing the Bond legacy with a new but capable figure.

During promotion on Ireland’s RTÉ Radio 1’s The Ray D’Arcy Show, Brosnan praised Taylor-Johnson’s “talent”, “skill” and “charisma” as essential attributes that align with the character of Bond. Having worked together in the emotional drama “The Greatest,” Brosnan has a first-hand view of Taylor-Johnson’s capabilities as an actor and potential spy extraordinaire.

Taylor-Johnson’s casting rumors have been central to the James Bond franchise as producers look to navigate the post-Daniel Craig era. Given that the series is known for its adaptability and evolution in step with changing global landscapes and audience expectations, choosing the next Bond carries weight beyond mere distribution; this signals the future direction of the franchise.

Brosnan advised Taylor-Johnson, “Be bold. go there Have fun”. George Lazenby, another former Bond, shared this sentiment, noting Taylor-Johnson’s ability to cope with the physical demands of the role and the iconic charm needed to win over audiences around the world.

For his part, Taylor-Johnson has kept a dignified silence on the subject, focusing on his current projects as the rumors swirl. His varied body of work, which includes standout performances in Kick-Ass, Tenet and the MCU’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, made a compelling case for his ability to tackle the multifaceted role of James Bond.

Earlier this week, James Bond fans called for a boycott of the franchise after the lead role was reportedly offered to Jewish actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Using the hashtag BoycottJamesBond on X, users highlighted Taylor-Johnson’s Jewish origins and protested the casting.

Israeli MP Danny Danon commented on the boycott of X, saying: “Aaron Taylor-Johnson would make a great James Bond.” A prominent account of Dr. Anastasia Maria Loupis wrote to her 1.2 million followers: “James Bond has been cast. Aaron Taylor Johnson. AND he is Jewish”. Another user, Sam Parker, said: “It’s crazy how big their range is. BoycottJamesBond .”

One comment on the post read: “We are trying to clean up Mossad’s image. Or will James run an international child sex trafficking ring this time, like in the real world????”. Last week, a source told The Sun: “Bond is Aaron’s job, if he wants to take it. The official offer is on the table and waiting to receive a response”.

Taylor-Johnson reportedly said of the role: “I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in this role. I take it as a great compliment.”
