A law that will virtually ban TikTok in the US has fast-forwarded through the US Congress and was quickly signed into law by President Joe Biden on April 24. It will take some time to produce effects, and TikTok has already announced that it will challenge it in court, but the decision is a historic one: it is the first time that the American government bans a media company altogether.

TikTok is already banned in India, Nepal, Afghanistan, Iran and Somalia. The European Union currently has two ongoing investigations into the platform, which is banned from the phones of European officials and officials. And in Romania, state employees were advised not to install the app on their phone. In fact, the discussion, started by certain politicians, regarding the “urgent regulation” of TikTok has also appeared here.
TikTok is, therefore, the most controversial social platform, although its business model does not differ much from that of other large companies of this kind, such as Meta, X (formerly Twitter) or Google. How did it get here and how dangerous is the app really?
