The words for which a teacher ended up in court. Two eighth-grade students put a lid on it

A teacher was forgiven by the judges for using offensive expressions during class to some 8th grade students. The teacher threatened one of the children with a broom. The court only gave him a warning.

A computer science teacher from a secondary school in Călinești (Argeș) was accused of abusive behavior, for behavior inappropriate to the position exercised. The teaching staff was complained of for having addressed, on two occasions, offensive expressions to some students.

During 2020, while teaching the “Information and Communication Technology” subject in the 8th grade, the teacher was accused of threatening a 15-year-old student with a broom who did not keep quiet during class.

“The defendant as a computer science teacher at the Vrănești Secondary School in Călinești, with direct intent, during the months of October-beginning of November 2020, while he was in class from the 8th grade, being in the exercise of his duties , threatened the student, 15 years old at the time of the crime, with acts of violence, coming towards him threateningly with a broomstick with the intention of hitting him, after which he addressed the injured person with insulting expressions, such as “‘you- and Easter you keep me as a child””it is stated in the indictment of the prosecutors.

The situation was repeated a year later. The teaching staff asked the students to sign a document in which they assumed that they would be financially responsible for any damage caused to the equipment in the computer lab, an aspect that was refused by several children. Because she did not want to sign, the teacher offended a student.

On March 25, 2024, the Pitesti Court of Appeal waived the punishment of the teacher, who admitted his actions. The teaching staff only received a warning from the court. His attention was also drawn to his future behavior and the consequences he faces if he commits more crimes. The court’s decision is final.

In reasoning, the judges draw attention to an unprecedented educational crisis: “The academic disinterest of the students is increasing and fueled by the lack of coercive means on the part of the teaching staff who, in turn, are faced with increasingly reprehensible manifestations on the part of the students, an expression of a society in which the emphasis is no longer on education and appropriate behavior in school”.
