Three children were injured in an armed attack that took place at a school in the city of Vantaa, Finland, police said, quoted by the BBC. The attacker, a 13-year-old minor, was arrested. The victims of the incident are also 13 years old.

UPDATE 11:30 Vantaa is the fourth largest city in Finland with approximately 240,000 inhabitants.

Finland has had two other deadly school shootings in 2007 and 2008, prompting stricter gun laws.

But Finland is a country where hunting is practiced on a large scale, and the Finns are passionate about guns. At the moment, in Finland 430,000 people legally own firearms, out of a population of 5.5 million.

In 2007, an 18-year-old student shot dead seven students and a teacher in the town of Tuusula, and the following year another student shot dead nine students and a teacher in the town of Kauhajoki.

UPDATE 11:10 The three injured children are 13 years old. According to investigators, the attacker is also 13 years old.

UPDATE 10:50 Three children were injured in the gun attack at the Finnish school, police said.

The arrested suspect is a minor, according to local sources.

The police also stated that all those caught in this incident are minors. Viertola School only has minor students, up to 15 years old.

The original news

Officers said they responded to the Viertola school just after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. At the same time they issued an alert by which the locals were advised to stay in their homes.

The suspect was arrested.

According to Finnish media, the school has 800 students and 90 employees. Witnesses told public broadcaster YLE that two ambulances left the scene.
