UPDATE Wednesday, April 3, 11:00 a.m.: After two days of protests, the trade unionists announced the end of the strike. “The strike started at the Romanian Post National Company ended this morning, April 3, 2024, following the signing of the new Collective Labor Agreement and its registration at the Territorial Labor Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest,” the National Trade Union Bloc reported.

According to the new Collective Labor Agreement, employees will receive a salary increase between 350 and 370 lei net, monthly, which will be granted in two installments, from June 1 and from September 1.

However, although the strike is over, the conflict will continue in court, after the Romanian Post contested the employees’ strike and sued the postal workers’ union, according to the court portal.

Original story on Tuesday, April 2: The general strike at the Romanian Post Office will end on Wednesday, April 3, when the new postmen’s employment contract will be registered, announced Tuesday evening, April 2, Bogdan Ivan, the Minister of Digitalization, in a statement broadcast live on the Facebook page of the institution. The images were deleted soon after, following criticism that the statements were filmed with a mobile phone and it was not clear what the minister was saying.

“We have clearly established the rights of each employee, and, moreover, a salary increase that is somewhat close to what the union requested, between 350 and 370 lei net, in two installments, has been established by mutual agreement , on July 1 and September 1. It follows that tomorrow morning (no – Wednesday), first thing in the morning, this collective labor agreement will be registered at the ITM, and the moment it is registered at the ITM, the collective labor conflict will automatically be considered closed and the activity will resume”. said Bogdan Ivan.

Regarding the salary, the minister of digitization said that not all employees will receive the same amount, because it is a question of different seniority or different level of employment.

“We are talking about approximately 17,000 employees who will have, at least theoretically, this increase and from the point of view of how they will be calculated, I repeat, a very complex salary for 21,500 people”, specified Bogdan Ivan.

“I got a supplement of income. Unfortunately, the employees of the Romanian Post are the poor of Romania,” said the president of the National Bank of Romania, Dumitru Costin, for his part.

The employees of the National Company “Pošta Română” went on strike on Monday, April 1, demanding a 400 lei increase in salaries, as well as an increase in the loyalty bonus.

According to the BNS, over 7,000 members from 32 counties in the country were on strike. The postmen who brought the pensions did not go to the field anymore, and the trade unionists accused that employees from Bucharest were sent to other cities to replace the protesters.

Monday evening, after 6 hours of negotiations, the trade unionists announced that they are analyzing the proposal made by the Romanian Post and the Ministry of Digitalization, according to which a wage increase will be granted in two installments: on July 1, when the minimum wage increases to 3,700 gross lei, from to 3,300 gross lei as it currently is, and on September 1, when it could increase by another 420 gross lei. Thus, cumulatively, a Romanian Post employee will receive an average net monthly salary increase of 369 lei per month.

At the same time, the management of the Poșta Română company challenged the employees’ strike in court, announced the National Trade Union Bloc.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu declared on April 2 that, if the situation is not resolved quickly and the pensioners do not receive their pensions due to the strike, then the director of the Romanian Post, Valentin Ștefan, will leave his position.
