The National Meterology Administration has a new ultra-performance radar system that can detect storms even from a distance of 230 kilometers. With its help, the population can be informed much faster about extreme weather phenomena, such as tornadoes.
According to Antena 3 CNN, extreme weather phenomena have increased in Romania. But, now, Romanians will be warned more quickly in case of storms or tornadoes.
“We are at the completion of one of the most important objectives out of the seven objectives of the Inframeteo project, namely the completion of the works within the design and execution contract for the modernization of the meteorological radar network. We have 7 new radars.
Today we are making the final reception of the last radar in Bucharest after the other six in the territory that cover the needs of monitoring and extreme weather at the territory level”, said Elena Mateescu, director of ANM.
The Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, said that these radars will help the authorities to know in advance what extreme weather phenomenon our country is going to face.
“We will have more efficient services. We will know in advance if we have extreme weather phenomena, if it is necessary to prepare for a possible flood”, he stated.
