The far-right Israeli minister of national security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, was slightly injured in a car accident on Friday and taken to hospital, the police announced, adding that they are investigating the circumstances of the accident, Reuters and EFE report.

The traffic accident took place in the city of Ramle, near Tel Aviv, while the minister was returning from the scene where a young woman was stabbed in an incident that the Israeli media and emergency services initially characterized as “terrorist”.

According to the witnesses quoted by Haaretz daily, the car in which the minister was traveling ran the red light, according to EFE.

Several images circulated on social media show Ben-Gvir’s official vehicle overturned in the middle of the road.

Police sources reported that there was a collision between two vehicles and that three people, including the minister, were hospitalized.

Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai confirmed the injury of two other people in the road accident, in addition to Minister Ben-Gvir.

The young woman was stabbed in the upper part of the body and taken to the Shamir Assaf Harofe hospital, where she is in “serious condition”, indicated the Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom (MDA).

Central district police chief Avi Biton said a 21-year-old man, who was allegedly mentally unstable, stabbed a 19-year-old woman.

He said the suspect tried to flee the scene when a civilian shot and “neutralized” him, without giving further details.
