The British ambassador to Moscow, Nigel Casey, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday after British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said during a visit to Kiev last week that Ukraine had the right to use weapons from British military aid to hit targets inside Russia and that it is up to Kiev to do that or not.

His claims angered Moscow, which said they were an admission that Britain “is now a de facto party to the conflict”.

“Casey was warned that the response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory with British weapons can be any British military installation and equipment on the territory of Ukraine or abroad,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Also, the Russian ministry said that Russia sees in Cameron’s remarks “a confirmation of the serious escalation and growing involvement of London in the military actions on the part of Kiev”.

“The ambassador was called to reflect on the inevitable catastrophic consequences of such hostile measures by London and to immediately reject the bellicose and provocative statements” of the British foreign minister, the Russian MFA also sent.
