Five workers lost their lives in a work accident that took place in the town of Casteldaccia, in the Palermo area, ANSA reports.

The workers were working in the sewage system and passed out from the smoke inside the lift tanks and then died. A sixth worker in a very serious condition was transported to the Policlinico hospital in Palermo.

They died one after the other going down a manhole in the sewer system. This is the first reconstruction of the accident at the workplace. After the first worker remained underground without coming out, the others went down to understand what was happening.

The seventh member of the team, not seeing his colleagues exit, raised the alarm. Four of the victims are employees of the Quadrifoglio company in Partinico, among them the owner of the company; while the fifth is a temporary worker of Amap.

The five victims of the accident at the workplace in Casteldaccia are: Epifanio Assazia, 71, who is supposed to be the co-owner of the company Quadrifoglio; Giuseppe Miraglia, Roberto Raneri, 50, Ignazio Giordano, 59, and Giuseppe La Barbera.
