The number of pensioners continues to exceed that of employees at the level of Gorj County.

According to the Statistics Directorate of Gorj County, the number of employees is 79,717, an increase compared to the previous year. From the total number of employees registered at the national level, the workforce of Gorj county represents a weight of 1.4%, thus occupying the 26th place in the ranking of counties in descending order.

At the beginning of spring, the average gross salary in Gorj county was 7,074 lei, lower than the national average by 11.5%, respectively by 916 lei. In Gorj county, the average net salary was 4282 lei, registering a decrease of 0.5%, respectively 20 lei compared to the previous month.

The average net salary increased compared to last spring by 13.7% in Gorj County. The average net salary gain increased by 0.3% in agriculture, forestry and fishing; it decreased by 1.4% in industry and construction and increased by 0.3% in services. Gorj County ranks 16th in the ranking of counties in descending order, the average net salary being lower than the national average by 12.2%, respectively by 594 lei.

81,500 pensioners

At the same time, the number of pensioners in Gorj County is over 81,500 people, increasing compared to last year. The average pension was 2,390 lei (3rd place in the ranking of counties in descending order), 381 lei higher than the national average pension). It is 15.9% higher than the similar period of the previous year (2,062 lei).

Gorj County continues to be at the top of the average pension ranking, given the high pensions of those who worked at the Oltenia Energy Complex. Here, the average pension is close to one thousand euros for personnel who worked in production and who benefited from special working conditions. In addition, thousands of CEOs have retired in the past year, given that the retirement age is lowered by 13 years for manufacturing workers.

Under 4,000 unemployed

The total number of recently registered unemployed is 3,984 people (1,977 men and 2,007 women). The number of unemployed is decreasing compared to the previous year’s statistics. The Gorj unemployment rate at the end of April was 3.3% overall (3.6% for women and 3.0% for men). Gorj County is on the 26th place in the ranking of counties in descending order, being 0.2 percentage points higher than the unemployment rate recorded at the country level (3.1%).
