In September, when pensions are recalculated, some pensioners will be luckier than others, depending on years of service. The pension you receive depends on your work experience.

Romanians’ pensions increased by 13.8% starting on January 1.

The authorities have promised another increase from September 1, which will affect most pensioners.

However, there are pensioners who will not receive any increase or may even receive lower pensions after the recalculation.

According to the law, it is ensured that every pensioner receives the most advantageous pension. Thus, the authorities promise that there will be no real decrease in pensions for anyone.

Recipient pensioners do not receive extra pension money after the increase

Pensioners who do not receive pension increases are those who have worked between 25 and 30 yearsbecause they have not accumulated enough bonus points.

The lack of these bonus points will lead to a reduction in the pension.

Example of pension calculation, after the recalculation of pensions from 2024

For example, let’s say a retiree has worked for 25 years and now has a total of 20 points.

If the value of a point is 2,051 lei, its gross pension is 4,100 lei, and the net pension is approximately 3,850 lei.

But, following the recalculation, without any added bonus point, his pension will be 1,701 lei, a decrease of 2,200 lei.

There are other similar cases.

For example, a pensioner who has accumulated a total of 40.72871 points for the 30 years of work will receive a pension of 3,500 lei, a reduction of 300 lei compared to the current pension of 3,800 lei.

The formula for calculating the pension is as follows

The gross monthly pension (PR) is equal to the total number of points multiplied by the value of the reference point (VPR), which is 81 lei.

The total number of points is determined by the sum of contributing points, stability points and non-contributing points.

Non-contributory points are calculated based on years spent in the military, unemployment or college (0.25 points for each year), while contributory points are those obtained from the activity carried out and reflected in the pension slip.
