Simona Halep’s return to the court after lifting her doping suspension is slowly turning into a fiasco.

Simona Halep managed to play only one match, the one in Miami with Paula Badosa. Then, she declined participation in the Billie Jean King Cup, but also in the Oeiras and Madrid tournaments, to which she had received invitations.

“Unfortunately, my body needs a bit more time to be ready and I made the difficult decision not to play in Madrid. It’s hard, because I want to return to the circuit as soon as possible, but experience tells me not to rush. Thanks to @MutuaMadridOpen, who gave me the wild card, and to my fans,” Halep noted on X.

The next big tournament before Roland Garros is the one in Rome (May 7-16). However, the organizers announced that all invitations have been given.

“The policy of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation is to grant mainly wildcards for Italian players. Also for athletes who do not have a ranking to enter the main draw by right. All the invitations for the tournament in Rome were granted”, Federica Paoletti, the press officer of the Italian Tennis Federation, told IAmSport.

The players who received wildcards for the tournament in Rome are Martina Trevisan, Sara Errani, Lucrezia Stefanini, Giorgia Pedone, Nuria Brancaccio and Matilde Paoletti. There are two wild cards left that will be awarded to the finalists of a pre-qualifying tournament.
