Daily stress, unbalanced lifestyle, lack of a sleep schedule are just some of the factors that increase the level of “bad” cholesterol in the body, responsible for the occurrence of heart disease and diabetes.

Given that it is almost impossible to control all of the above factors, nutritional doctors believe that there are solutions within everyone’s reach to lower the level of “bad” cholesterol without the help of drugs.

Below you can find five simple methods to keep your cholesterol under control.

● Eat fruits and vegetables daily, as they must not be missing from a balanced diet. Nutritionists say that daily it is advisable to include five servings of fruits and vegetables in the diet. These foods contain substances, including fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that lower the level of “bad” cholesterol in the body.

● Eat fish three times a week. According to nutritionists, fish is the ideal food to reduce cholesterol. Some species, such as salmon, are rich in Omega 3. These fatty acids are a source of “good” fats.

● Go on a weight loss regimen. Doctors say that overweight people or those who have a body mass index above the normal average have a high cholesterol level. Thus, to prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases or diabetes, it is advisable to lose weight. But be careful: being thin does not necessarily mean being healthy. Before adopting a regimen, ask your doctor for advice.

● Give up alcohol and tobacco. Nutritionists recommend us to give up these vices, because alcohol increases the level of sugar in the blood, and tobacco decreases the level of “good” cholesterol in the body.

● You must exercise for 30 minutes every day. Experts state that sports stimulate blood circulation, which leads to a decrease in “bad” cholesterol. Jogging, swimming, aerobics and cycling are the most recommended sports.
