Some stone quarries in the north of Tulcea county are open to cyclists who want to visit them.

The administrator of an electric bicycle rental center, Marius Gabriel Mocanu, stated that some tourist routes that he proposes to visitors even end up in stone quarries.

“The stone quarries are worth visiting. Tourists have something to see. They are machines, they can see how sand and different types of materials are produced. The quarries are active’, said Mocanu.

One of the routes accessible to cyclists from Galati and Brăila that runs through part of a stone quarry is located near the Iacobdeal lake.

‘The routes were quite easy. Instead, there are many bumps. For a person who usually goes to town by bicycle, I found them challenging, but I liked them’, said Ionuţ C., from Galati, at the end of a trip to the stone quarry.

At the beginning of the 2000s, 42 stone quarries were operating in Tulcea county, but over time their number decreased, for economic reasons.
