A collection of over 100 wooden eggs, figurines, wooden bunnies and other Easter-themed items is on display at the National Museum of History in the capital.
Visitors can admire greeting cards and postcards from the 1930s-1940s and from the communist period. All these and many others have been gathered over the years by enthusiastic collectors united under the name of the ‘Toy Museum Association’.
Cristian Dumitru, the president of the Association, says that “it is our collection, that of wooden eggs that were found in fairs and markets and our parents bought them as a kind of holiday toy. Initially, they were only painted red, without a pattern, and because in those days it was organized – let’s say like a mini-competition which egg is more resistant, the child who had a wooden egg always came out the champion. The oldest ones are from the 30s because even then there was the famous story of the egg with surprises. It was a wooden egg that could contain sweets or even smaller toys.”
The exhibition can be visited until the end of this month.
