On Tuesday, April 2, the trial of the parents who killed their 2-year-old child by scalding began at the Ploiești Court of Appeal. The shocking scenes took place on 26.10.2021,

What reasons did the maternal grandmother invoke to escape punishment?

Although the child was suffering, the parents did not take her to the hospital, in the end the child’s grandmother called 112. Unfortunately, the doctors could not do anything for the girl, so they declared her dead.

According to the medico-legal expertise report (autopsy), the victim’s death was violent and was caused by acute cardio-respiratory insufficiency, as a result of the burns, between the injuries and death there is an unconditional direct causal link.

The parents were pre-arrested on April 1, 2023, the measure being taken almost two years after the fact. The grandmother was also charged, being a participant in the horror scenes.

She received 8 months in prison with execution for committing the crime of leaving a person in distress without help, but she would have tried to escape the execution of the sentence, remembering that without her deposition, the Prosecutor’s Office was only investigating manslaughter, although they had the report of autopsy on file.

At the same time, the two parents, Horia Mihai was sentenced to 22 years in prison, and Maria Diana Mihai received a 20-year sentence for the crime of aggravated murder against a family member.

They are in preventive detention in Mărgineni and Târgşor penitentiaries, respectively.

The girl’s mother, new lies in front of the judges

On Tuesday, the child’s mother allegedly tried to escape punishment as well, saying that she had an epileptic fit while giving the girl a bath.

“They are trying to escape the years of imprisonment imposed on them by the trial court, rather blaming each other. The last defense put forward by the murderous mother was that she had an epileptic fit while bathing the child, a fact that made it impossible to help her. Of course, it is a lie that is easy to combat with the criminal investigation documents carried out in the case, but also with regard to the already pronounced sentence that nuances these elements. There were rather sickening scenes when the criminal’s mother, who came on crutches, began to cry with her daughter in the accused’s box. We wonder why she didn’t cry when her two-year-old and 10-month-old niece was dying in terrible agony from being scalded. There was also a violent conflict between the two mothers-in-law who got into a fight in the courtroom”explained the lawyer Adrian Cuculis.
