“Butterflies smelled of raw grass”, a 100 percent Galați show, written by Andrei Velea, with the actors Elena Emandi and Andrei D. Ciobanu and the participation of the percussionist Patrick Alexandru Păun, in the directorial-set design vision of the plastic artist Monica Turcu, and – successfully took flight to the public at the end of last week, from the gallery space of the Alexandria Bookstore.

The writer from Gălăţi Andrei Velea proposes, according to his own words, “a high-tech poem, a dramaturgical essay about the way in which man is permanently forced to rethink his own position in the Universe”, transformed into a performance by the contribution of Monica Turcu, ” a pure-blooded artist, passionate to the point of wasting himself on artistic expression”, as the writer also describes her.

What is the border between reason and feeling, between human and technical, between natural and artificial? The show, brought to you here through the images of photographer artist Simona Andrei, only helps us to dive into this postmodern universe, but dominated by the same questions that Socrates and Descartes were trying to answer: what defines man and what is his place in the world?

With the impetuosity of youth, but also with a mature strength that you wonder where she channels it, projecting it to the public, Elena Emandi shines, transfiguring herself and convincing, as, moreover, in every role in which I have seen her so far.

Andrei Ciobanu, recently graduated and currently a master’s student, confesses that, for him, the role is complex and not exactly easy, but that he evolves and overcomes his limits.

Patrick Alexandru-Păun, the young musician who gave the special note to the ending of the piece, is, in turn, very young, but full of creative force. Each of the artists from Galata who created this show deserves to go see what came out. For each of us, the lesson we leave with may be different, but the time spent experiencing the show will certainly not be wasted.
