Citizens who wear this ribbon in the Republic of Moldova risk fines of at least 4,500 Moldovan lei. It is about the ribbon of Saint George, traditionally worn by Russians. This is considered a sign of Russian aggression in Ukraine.

The authorities also urged the citizens who will participate in the events organized on May 9 to respect public order and not to have weapons or other prohibited objects on them.
“We ask that we avoid messages with a political and provocative tone, avoid any situation of conflict, messages that incite aggression or violence. During the events, we ask very much that citizens do not carry weapons, prohibited means, suspicious objects that may cause certain risks to the other people around”, the quoted source added.
Wearing the ribbon of St. George is punishable by fines between 4,500 and 9,000 lei or community service for individuals. In the case of persons with a position of responsibility, the fines established by the Parliament, with the amendment of the law, start from 9,000 and reach 18,000 lei. According to the General Police Inspectorate, last year, the amount of fines applied for wearing the bicolor ribbon reached 590,000 lei.
