The Prefect of Olt, investigated by the General Directorate of Internal Protection (DGPI) for using the institution’s car for electoral purposes

The Prefect of Olt was investigated by the General Directorate of Internal Protection (DGPI), subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), for using the institution’s car for personal purposes.

The information was officially confirmed by the control structure.

“Regarding your petition addressed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), submitted to the General Directorate of Internal Protection (DGPI), where it was registered with no. 2105606 of 08.03.2024, we thank you for the reported aspects and inform you that they were the subject of checks carried out in strict accordance with the attributions and competences of our institution”, it is stated in an official response sent by the DGPI.

Regarding a possible sanction applied to the prefect of Olt, the institution subordinate to the MAI specifies that “data regarding specific activities cannot be the object of public information, being exempted from the free access of citizens, according to the provisions of art. 12 paragraph (1) of Law no. 544/2001”.

Images of the Government representative in the territory appeared in the local media at such a meeting held in Slatina, on Nicolae Bălcescu street.

The prefect admitted in a press conference that he used the institution’s car to harass the family of mayor Emil Moţ, confirming the accusations of the mayor who also presented video evidence. For the use of public resources in personal interests, a former mayor of the municipality of Iasi was sentenced to five years in prison.

Asked what he was doing during working hours and with the vehicle of the Prefect’s Institution in a field in Slatina, he declared: “I was in the capacity of prefect!”.
