There is a large-scale investigation in the Police from Caraş-Severin, after a man was severely beaten by the policemen from Anina. In the images captured by the surveillance cameras, you can see how the agents hit the man who is lying on the ground with force.

The 48-year-old man was brutally beaten by two policemen in a park in Anina, where it seems that he refused to show his ID.

Police say the man was known to drink alcohol. He didn’t want to give them the ticket, so the agents wanted to take him to the police headquarters. The man refused and they tried to immobilize him by beating him.

The victim arrived at the hospital, after spending more than five hours at the police, he was beaten by the police, the man says.

He was at the IML, where he received 10 days of medical care and 34 strokes were found.

The police claim that the man was, in fact, stopped in traffic and that he refused to show identification or blow into the vial. He refused to cooperate with the police and wanted to run away. Only later did the police catch him in the park and take him to the police headquarters.

Regarding the attitude of the policemen, IPJ Caraş-Severin started an investigation to check if the policemen acted according to the statute or if it was an abuse of service.

The reaction of the IPJ Caraş-Severin, following the incident

“On March 23, 2024, at 5:40 p.m., policemen from the Anina City Police observed a car driving on Oraș Nou street in Anina, without having plates with visible registration numbers mounted.

When he noticed that the police had given him the legal stop signal, the driver stopped the car and sped off, fleeing from the police. They chased him for about 100 meters, at which point, on rough terrain, the man tripped and fell.

The policemen proceeded to immobilize and handcuff the man who was aggressive and had recalcitrant behavior, resisting the handcuffing and trying to hit the policemen.

Next, the man was taken to the police headquarters for further checks and the application of legal measures.

He exuded alcoholic breath, and the breathalyzer test showed that he had a breath alcohol level of 1.31 mg/l of pure alcohol.

According to the procedure, the man was taken to the hospital where biological samples were taken to determine the concentration of alcohol in his blood.

Also, the car he was driving was not registered in circulation.

In this case, a criminal case was drawn up for the offenses of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving an unregistered vehicle.

The man’s right to drive vehicles on public roads was suspended.

At the same time, we specify the fact that at the level of the inspectorate, checks were ordered through the Internal Control Department, in order to establish whether the aspects reported by the man in question are confirmed, in which case the necessary legal measures will be applied.

Also, in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the person has the possibility to file a criminal complaint”, the press release of IPJ Caraş-Severin states
