Both the railway lines to be modernized and the highway network will pass through Cluj, an area which, says the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean, will become an important hub for this part of Europe:

Cluj is on the East-West, Danube-Rhine transport axis, it needs connectivity on this corridor, both for the highway and for the railway, it will be part of the high-speed line between European capitals. Romania will connect to Budapest, to Berlin, to the south of Sofia and Cluj is an essential transport hub on this route. (Adina Valean)

Work is already underway on the modernization and electrification of the Episcopia Bihor – Oradea – Cluj-Napoca railway, with the investment to last for two years. After completion, the trains will have an average speed of over 100 kilometers per hour.

Also, Transylvania highway has all sections in the works or in tender, and the entire project must be completed by 2030.

The Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, recalls that, in the previous budget exercise of the European Union, Romania spent for the first time all the money allocated for this sector and even requested additional funds:

All these works are on European money. Since we entered the European Union, in 2007, Romania’s contribution was around 30 billion, the money that entered the country was 90 billion. A difference of about 60 billion in our favor. (Sorin Grindeanu)

Funds for the development of Romania’s railway and road networks will also exist in the next six years. European Commissioner Adina Vălean reveals that our country has 12 billion euros available to finance most of the transport projects that have been started:

At the level of the European Union, we at Transporturi work to finance and support national and regional authorities in the implementation of projects that will lead us to this high-performance network in Romania as well. We brought 12 billion euros to Romania, there are a lot of projects and we will use this money to see a positive result at the end of the current budget year. (Adina Valean)
