After her suspension from the doping case expired, Simona Halep hoped to play on the surface on which she made history in women’s world tennis, but the clay season may end without the Romanian on the court.

Rome said no to our player, the organizers preferring to give invitations to Italian athletes, so the only hope for a big tournament remains Roland Garros. But there is little chance that Parisian officials will give the former world leader a wild card, given what happened in the previous major doping case in women’s tennis.

Maria Sharapova, returned after the expiration of the suspension received after she was caught doping with meldonium, did not receive an invitation to play at Roland Garros in 2017. The organizers of the Grand Slam tournament in the capital of France want to stay away from doping scandals, thus that he is expected to act in the same way in the case of Halep.

Only one tournament until Roland Garros

The only chance to play on clay for Simona is to convince the officials of the Internationaux de Strasbourg tournament (WTA 500, May 15-25) to give her the chance to evolve, this being the only competition that will be played on the orange surface in this spring season in the women’s circuit, until Roland Garros. In the summer season, there are also some smaller competitions, like Lausanne, Palermo or Warsaw.

Simona Halep played a match at the Miami Open, on March 19, and then missed several competitions, for various reasons: Charleston, the match against Ukraine in the Billie Jean King Cup, Oeiras and Madrid.
