In Romanian markets and stores, authentic and natural dairy products are increasingly difficult to find.

According to the tests carried out by the sanitary-veterinary inspectors, many of the dairy products sold in the country are fake, realitatea.net informs.

Dairy products are very easy to counterfeit and, unfortunately, irregularities can only be found in laboratories.

The most common method by which producers try to trick their customers is “stretching” the milk from which the cheeses are made, with water. Another method is to replace the type of milk from which the product is usually made with another, cheaper one, for example goat milk with cow milk.

There are also problems with product labels, with some manufacturers putting a lower fat percentage than the real one on the yogurt or cream packaging.

Moreover, some producers also add a quantity of salt, much higher than that stated on the label, in order to keep the product “fresh” longer. Also, other vegetable fats or even wheat flour, starch, egg white, gelatin or other starchy substances can be added to the cheeses, to increase their volume.

Manufacturers do these things to cut costs and achieve greater financial gains, despite the fact that these changes can affect the quality of the product and implicitly the health of the consumer.
