The Association of the Economic Informatics Club – CyberKnowledgeClub (CKC) launches a new initiative that promises to help the Romanian educational field through technology and innovation. Starting from April 2024, CKC organizes in Romania the First Lego League (FLL), the most important international robotics competition for students, which uses LEGO kits to promote and develop skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

FLL is an educational ecosystem that encourages young people to become innovators and problem solvers. Participants, aged between 6 and 16, are challenged to build autonomous robots using the LEGO kit, which must perform various missions on a themed playground. The theme changes annually and is inspired by real societal challenges such as sustainability, renewable energy or space exploration.

In addition to the robotics competition, teams must research and present creative solutions to contemporary problems related to the annual theme. This aspect of the competition develops research, critical thinking and presentation skills, preparing young people for the complex challenges of the future.

This program aims to spark children’s and teenagers’ enthusiasm for science and technology, making learning an engaging and interactive experience. Participants are also encouraged to adopt and cultivate team spirit, learning to collaborate effectively and respectfully with their colleagues.

The First Lego League aims to inspire young people to tackle complex challenges in a creative way, thus developing their ability to find innovative solutions to real problems. The event also promotes intercultural values, providing opportunities for interaction and mutual learning between teams from different parts of the country and sometimes internationally.

The project manager from CKC, prof. Dr. Mihai Chiroiu, shares his enthusiasm for this new edition: “We are preparing to welcome students eager to learn robotics at this year’s edition. We are happy to announce that we are starting to implement a new concept that will lead to the expansion of First Lego League in Romania.”

By taking over the First Lego League competition in Romania, CKC is taking a significant step in promoting STEM education in Romania, responding to the growing demand for technical skills and contributing to the formation of a new generation of innovative leaders.

Registration is done on the competition website https://firstlegoleague.ro/. Participation in the competition is open to robotics clubs, middle schools or high schools, and all parent groups who share a passion for robotics. Interested students can get additional details on the competition website.
