NATO countries strongly condemn the latest Russian air attacks against Ukraine and commit to continue strengthening its defense, according to a statement issued at the end of Thursday’s meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, convened at the level of ambassadors, at the request of Kiev, informs EFE.

“Russia’s continuous attacks against the civilian population and critical infrastructure in Ukraine demonstrate the urgent need for continued support from our side”, said the Deputy Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mircea Geoană, who chaired the Council, which he participated in via video conference the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, according to Agerpres.

NATO mentions in the press release that the allies are providing Ukraine with unprecedented military, financial and humanitarian assistance.

As examples of this, the release notes that France will soon send more Caesar cannons, while several allies have joined the Czech Republic’s initiative to purchase 800,000 additional artillery shells for Kiev.

NATO is currently working on establishing a joint analysis, training and training center in the Polish city of Bydgoscz, where Ukrainian forces will be able to train alongside allied troops, according to the text.

In addition, as part of NATO’s overall assistance package, the Alliance also provides Ukraine with non-lethal support.

The allied countries agreed, at the summit in Vilnius last July, to create the NATO-Ukraine Council, a forum where both sides can consult and make decisions in crisis situations, on an equal footing.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense estimated on Monday at more than 2,000 the number of Russian ballistic and cruise missiles shot down by Ukrainian forces since the beginning of the invasion of Moscow, launched on February 24, 2022.
