On Saturday, March 23, half-naked, pale, her skin marked by numerous cigarette burns and a bleeding head wound, she wandered the streets of the city in the south of France.
The “police rescue” crew stopped when they saw her and gave her first aid. In broken French, the Romanian narrated the ordeal she has been living for more than a year.
Escorted by the police, she agreed to go “home”. But when they arrive, her husband and 6-year-old child are gone. The 36-year-old Romanian had disappeared. The woman was taken to the hospital and received treatment and a 15-day prognosis, according to a medical examiner’s report. She said she was beaten, humiliated and tortured for weeks.
A few hours later, the Romanian woman refused to file a complaint, but the prosecutor’s office opened an investigation for violence against a husband, acts of torture and barbarism. An offense punishable by a maximum of 15 years in prison.
The investigations were entrusted to the “family protection” group within the Haute-Garonne territorial crime division, whose agents quickly found the Romanian and arrested him on Monday. He admitted to “spitting” and “slapping” his wife, whom he describes as a drug addict, addicted to cocaine. But he denied acts of torture.
The investigation continues and a judge decided on preventive arrest for the Romanian.
