Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, accused of bribery, and his wife bought a residential building with an area of ​​more than 1,500 square meters and several cars, RIA Novosti reports, based on an analysis of statements for period 2016-2019.

“In 2016, the family of Deputy Minister Timur Ivanov had nine vehicles, and by 2019 they had reached 12,” writes the financial newspaper Kommersant, from Russia. “Among Timur Ivanov’s cars are a Chevrolet Suburban (from 2016), ZiS-110 (limousine, purchased in 2019).

The cost of the ZiS-110, according to Avto.ru, varies between 11 and 18 million rubles (between 100,000 and 200,000 euros),” reports the Moscow daily.

Timur Ivanov, 47, was arrested on April 23 in what The Guardian called “Russia’s most significant corruption scandal in recent years”. Following the detention, there was immediate talk of “a possible purge within the Moscow elites.”

1,500 sq m house and 350 sq m apartment in Mexico for the child

“In 2019, Timur Ivanov’s family purchased a residential building with an area of ​​more than 1.5 thousand square meters. The villa is registered in the name of the wife, and not in the name of the deputy minister himself”.

“Since 2016, their child has used an apartment in Mexico with an area of ​​350 square meters,” the quoted source also writes.

Another house of 1,000 sq m, in the name of the Russian Federation

Russian media also claim that Timur Ivanov also has another villa in Rublyovka, a select residential district in Moscow, the area of ​​celebrities and political leaders. “The cost of this villa, according to the media, is 1 billion rubles (no more than 10 million euros). And the area of ​​this villa is about 1,000 square meters. The owner of the house, in the cadastre, is indicated as the Russian Federation,” writes Kommersant.

Timur Ivanov worked as Deputy Minister of Defense since 2016, he was responsible for organizing property management, troop accommodation, housing and medical support for the armed forces.

He was detained on April 23, and the court sent him to prison for two months. The deputy minister is accused of receiving a bribe, the prosecutors claiming that they have evidence for a bribe of 1 million rubles (10,000 euros). Ivanov did not admit his guilt.
