The Chinese leader landed in Belgrade around 21:35 local time, where he was met by President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic, writes the Tanjug news agency.
Upon arrival, Xi Jinping was greeted with Serbian folk music and dances.
The leader from Beijing declared that “the solid friendship between Serbia and China has taken root in the hearts of the two peoples” and was convinced that this official visit “will open a new chapter” in the relations between the two countries.
“China and Serbia have provided each other firm support on matters concerning our core interests and major concerns. We have jointly upheld international fairness and justice and contributed to the promotion of peace and development in the world,” Xi said in a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy in Serbia.
In his turn, President Vucic stated that it is a great honor for Serbia to receive this visit.
“Dear President, dear friend, welcome to Serbia! With this visit, you have brought great honor to our country and the people who truly love China and cherish the friendship of your great country. The vision of peace you uphold has inspired strength for our small country, which today boldly and proudly follows the path of progress and success,” Vucic wrote on Instagram, adding that Belgrade wants to share “sincere hospitality for all the support” that the PRC he selflessly offers his services to Serbia.
“Long live the solid friendship between Serbia and China, built in difficult times, which we will continue to maintain through mutual respect, understanding and strong support,” concluded the Serbian leader.
