Apple has reduced the number of Vision Pro units it plans to ship in 2024 from an estimated 700,000 – 800,000 to just 400,000 – 450,000 units, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The number of units ready for delivery is falling even before the Vision Pro is released in markets outside the United States, which Kuo says is a sign that demand in the U.S. has “fallen sharply.” As a result, we expect Apple to take a “conservative” approach to estimating demand when the Vision Pro is released in other countries.

Kuo previously said that Apple will introduce the Vision Pro to new markets before the WWDC event in June, suggesting that we could see availability in more markets in the coming months.

Apple expects Vision Pro shipments to decline in 2025 compared to 2024, and the company is reportedly “reviewing and adjusting” its roadmap for the headset. Kuo also doesn’t think there will be a new Vision Pro model in 2025.

In a piece written in February, Kuo said Apple was working at the time to improve production efficiency and supply management without making significant changes to product specifications and user experience. At the time, Kuo estimated we wouldn’t see a Vision Pro with significant updates until 2027.

In addition, Kuo also believes that Apple needs to work on the lack of apps, price and convenience, all without affecting the user experience. Poor sales of the Vision Pro could affect the growth of the pancake lens segment as well as the adoption of microOLED display technology in small consumer electronics.
