The Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Directorate announced the results of the analyzes carried out in the case of the 4-year-old girl and her grandmother, who died after consuming frozen fish bought from a store in the village.

A 4-year-old girl and her grandmother died on Monday, after having symptoms similar to those caused by food poisoning, after consuming several products, including fish, the day before.

“During the day of 29.04.2024, a tragic event took place in Călăraşi county, dying on the same day, during the morning, a 4-year-old girl and around noon her grandmother. The event was initially notified as a suspicion of food poisoning, the fish consumed on Sunday being possibly the culprit. 10 people participated in the meal, of which 4 children and 6 adults, the products consumed were numerous (fish, pork neck, small, pork sausages, pork ribs, doughnuts). Only the 4-year-old girl and her grandmother had nausea and vomiting,” the Ministry of Health informed on Tuesday.

Following the incident, more tests were carried out to find out if the fish meat was the cause of the two deaths.

According to the statement issued by DSVSA Călărași, regarding the analyzes carried out on the samples taken from the shop in Spanțov commune, where the product was purchased, the results are negative.

On Friday, the Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) officially communicated the final laboratory results in the case of the death of the 4-year-old girl and her grandmother, both from Spanțov commune: no bacteria “causing food poisoning” were found in the store’s products where the fish was bought, but in the family home.

“On the samples taken from the grocery store, frozen and small fish, for the determination of food poisoning agents E.coli, Salmonella spp, Listeria monocytogenes, coagulase-positive staphylococci, Enterobacteriaceae, the results are negative,” reads the DSVSA Călărași press release.

Instead, according to Adevărul.ro, after “samples were also taken at the family home, from fish and meat prepared at home”, they came out positive for Enterobacteriaceae bacteria. Read the sequel HERE
