Hallucinatory case in Cluj-Napoca. A patient with a vascular accident was transferred by the SMURD helicopter to Suceava, after being refused by 5 clinics. Practically, in the entire Cluj University Center, no clinic was found where he could be operated on, either due to a lack of staff or equipment, according to the local media.

The 47-year-old patient suffered an acute ischemic stroke. He was transferred by a SMURD helicopter, from the Cluj County Emergency Hospital to the Suceava County Emergency Hospital. The reason for the transfer was the fact that he could not be operated on in Cluj due to a lack of doctors or kits necessary to extract the clot, according to Cluj News. For these reasons, the patient was refused by five other Interventional Radiology centers.

It is the first time that such a request to the Suceava hospital comes from a university center. Practically, the entire Cluj University Center was not able to find a place to operate on the patient and it was necessary for him to be transferred to Suceava.

The case represents a first for SCJU Suceava, which took over a patient from a university center. “The patient’s symptoms started at 11:30. Thrombolysis (administration of drugs that dissolve the blood clot) was performed at 14:00 at the hospital in Cluj. Because there was no significant improvement in the symptoms, it was decided to transfer the patient to the Suceava County Clinical Hospital for the extraction of the blood clot from the level of the affected cerebral vessel by the Interventional Radiology team. It is the first request of this kind received from a university center”, the representatives of SCJU Suceava sent, according to Agerpres.

The procedure was successfully performed, the clot was successfully extracted, and the patient’s evolution was good. The team that contributed to this success was made up of doctors from UPU, neurologist Dr. Ana Burca, anesthesiologist Dr. Tiron Crina, interventional radiologists Dr. Cătălin Lulciuc and Dr. Mircea Gabriel, assistants Serediuc and Lucanu.
