Apple seems to be in a hurry, the company from Cupertino wants to introduce with iOS 18 AI technologies on the iPhones and iPads in its portfolio. It would have already discussed with Google for the terminals sold globally and with Baidu for the iPhones sold in China. However, the manufacturer seems to be planning to develop its own AI model, known as ReALM. Below we have details.

Recently, a document (research paper) was discovered by the publication VentureBeat. Here Apple explains how it should work ReALM, its own AI model. It would be a model that can understand human language at a higher level than other chatbots. In other words, it could be integrated into the Siri virtual assistant to provide more accurate answers by somehow understanding people’s natural language.

For digital assistants we are talking about a challenge, except that Apple’s ReALM could interpret a variety of verbal expressions and interpret them visually. Apple’s ReALM system can even reconstruct the visual appearance of a screen using textual representations. This technique involves analyzing screen entities and their locations to generate a textual format that captures the content and structure of the screen.

Apple researchers have found that this strategy, combined with specific fine-tuning of language models for benchmark resolution tasks, significantly outperforms traditional methods, including OpenAI’s GPT-4 capabilities.

Apple has now published several AI research papers. Last month, the company unveiled a new method for training large language models that seamlessly integrates both text and visual information.

Apple is expected to unveil a number of AI features at WWDC 2024 in June.
