On Friday evening, a landslide occurred on Uliului street in the municipality of Cluj-Napoca, car access being closed on the affected street.

A crew with a special vehicle from Detachment 2 Cluj-Napoca was assigned to the scene, which found that one of the lanes of the roadway, for a length of approximately 20 meters, was affected. Also, Cluj Prefecture ordered a state of alert.

At the beginning of the extraordinary meeting on April 29, 2024 in the Glass Hall at Cluj City Hall, several residents of Uliului Street entered to tell their problems.

At the beginning of the meeting, mayor Emil Boc wanted to talk about the crisis situation.

“Ever since the beginning of last week, when we noticed that there were problems and cracks in the street, we ordered 24-hour monitoring, and as the situation worsened, we ordered the suspension of traffic and the assurance of permanence with the Local Police and the search immediate solutions.
The technical expertise is done to determine for what reason and what solution must be applied. Unfortunately, this is the situation in Cluj, in all the hills we have problems with landslides. This is Cluj, we are glad to have it, but there are also technical solutions to solve the problem. I repeat, expertise will tell us why and what solution to find. Until then, we made the findings, asked the experts for proposals, found alternative travel routes for citizens, ensured with the Local Police that those who want to know what is happening are informed, and today people have an alternative at Tăietura Turcului to be able to to get home until the problem is solved.
Through the County Emergency Committee we declared a state of alert (…) The important thing is that we have a solution, it is not ideal, we are not happy that people have to take a tour to get home, but this is what was humanly possible so that people have alternatives. We will speed up the expertise within the limits of the law and also the intervention on the works”, declared the mayor.

“How did it get here? Since 2013, I have been attending the City Hall. We raised all the issues that are there and we were given some answers that the world laughed at. I went to Mr. Tarcea’s deputy mayor not once, about 7-8 times (…) I want to ask how he got here? Uliului Street does not have storm sewers”, said one of the residents of Uliului Street.

“I have reported so many times. Indeed, they came and repaired, but they did not solve the cause that led to the surprise,” said another resident.

“The town hall intervened from the first moments, with emergency measures. Following the analysis of the expert in the field, lasting measures will be implemented to remedy the problems. Until the results of the expertise, we cannot say how we will act in the long term, but following the analysis we will continue the interventions”, said the deputy mayor Dan Tarcea.
