Dan Petrescu is preparing a real “revolution” at CFR Cluj. Cluj’s financier Nelu Varga is determined to give total trust to “The Badger” even if it would mean a hole in the budget of the team from Gruia.

Dan Petrescu promises revolution at CFR Cluj

Dan Petrescu wants to give up some of the players who were the pillars of the team during the tenure of Mandorlini and the “brilliant” Adi Mutu. Panagiotis Tachtsidis and Omar El Kaddouri are the first names to leave the team funded by Nelu Varga.

Dan Petrescu also makes changes in the defensive department. The future of Boben, Anton Kresic and Ajeti at the team from Gruia is in question, given that the performance of the three players has never been consistent. It is known that Dan Petrescu creates his playing style around defense. Therefore, it is not excluded that in the future we will see new players at CFR Cluj.

Long list of transfers

Goalkeeper Crisitan Bălgrădean has reached the end of his contract and there are few chances of concluding a new deal, especially since the goalkeeper from Cluj could be replaced by Otto Hindrich. Cristian Manea is also on the list of those who will leave the team. Free of contract since July, Manea has every chance to reach the Turks from Galatasaray.

Camora and Ciprian Deac, the team’s veterans, seem to have secured the position given that Dan Petresu has an affinity for the two players with old status in the team from Gruia. The team’s new strategy also includes promoting young hopefuls from the junior team. Thus, Radu Alexandru, Alberto Cimpoeșu, Paul Ciupei, Răzvan Gligor, Alex Nădășanu and Darius Salak could be transferred to the big team.

Dan Petrescu, difficult mission at CFR Cluj

However, the financial problems of the team led by Nelu Varga are not to be neglected. CFR Cluj will have to sell players to cover the holes in the budget. Especially since the club’s debt has reached 35 million euros, of which 2.1 represents only employee expenses, according to GSP.

In this sense, Răzvan Sava or Philip Otele are two players who can still cover part of the team’s debts. Mainz and Koln are interested in Sava’s services, and Otele could make a move to Serie A side Napoli this summer. It remains to be seen if Dan Petrescu will let the players go.
