The court in Suceava decided, in addition to the suspended prison sentence, that doctor Anca Ababneh Dumitrovici can no longer practice in the public health system for five years. Instead, he can work privately.

Anca Ababneh Dumitrovici was judged by the simplified procedure, of the recognition of guilt, thus benefiting from the reduction of the punishment limits by one third, the cited source also writes.

At the same time, the judge also established a probation period of 4 years, during which the doctor must not commit other crimes in order not to have his suspension revoked.

Filmed taking bribes 280 times in 20 days

According to the decision of the Suceava Court, the prosecutors identified and interviewed the 280 patients and relatives filmed by the cameras while offering bribes to the doctor.

As Libertatea reported, two complaints were filed against the doctor Anca Dumitrovici Ababneh. The investigations of the anti-corruption police in Suceava showed that “among patients who need oncological treatment, it is well known that the doctor Ababneh Dumitrovici Anca and the staff of the Oncology department of the Suceava County Hospital are waiting for sums of money to prescribe drugs and facilitate obtaining medical prescriptions. Several people stated that these habits were taken over from the former department head”.

His colleagues defended him

Dr. Dumitrovici Ababneh’s colleagues stated, in a document expressing their support for the doctor who had just been arrested, that it was not a matter of bribery, but of small attentions – candies, flowers – that the patients offered as a sign of gratitude.

The data in the file show that most of the time the head of Oncology received money from patients. In general, small amounts, 50, 100 lei, because the patients, many of them in terminal stages of the disease, on morphine treatment to ease their pain, would declare at subsequent hearings that they could not afford more.

“People were talking about getting it,” a patient explained her gesture at hearings.
