The new Xiaomi SU7 has become as discussed and admired in China as the Tesla Cybertruck is in the USA. The most impressive part, however, is the fact that this new electric model is the first car created by Xiaomi, a company that until now only manufactured electronic products. And usually, a company’s first attempt at making a car, especially when designing all the key components from scratch, will inevitably result in imperfect cars. But that’s not the case with this Xiaomi SU7, apparently. The car is exceptionally good in the technologies on board, but also in the way it drives, and a YouTuber from China, who publishes reviews in English, says that the car feels like an Audi or a Porsche to drive, in both it’s good.

Even many car manufacturers with a history of a century brought out imperfect and clumsy electric cars when they launched their first models. And among the new ones that go through huge waves of criticism, it is enough to mention Fisker and VinFast, for example. At Xiaomi, however, the handling is already brought to the maturity that usually only large and experienced teams of engineers can achieve.

The digital technology on board is also curious, which is created from the perspective of Chinese customs, somewhat unknown in our regions. Xiaomi is a manufacturer of all possible electronics in a smart home, from air conditioners to lighting blocks and voice control centers. And the car can now integrate into this ecosystem, so you can command its settings and actions by voice, from the home system.

And this level of integration still simply does not exist in other Western manufacturers. Sure, some functions exist, usually through phone apps. But they are not offered so integrated into a centralized ecosystem of a smart home. And the experience of this ecosystem can be extraordinary and is already one of the major points of attraction in sales.

Equally surprising is the phone’s integration into the multimedia system. It’s not just about the availability of some functions, like with Apple CarPlay, but the entire phone can be mirrored on the screen, in an upper layer, or it can be extended to become an integral part of the main display columns. These mirror images are transmitted at 60 frames per second, so it’s a smooth, stutter-free interaction.

And similar advanced features exist in the back seat, where it can transform into an iPad with the entire Apple ecosystem.

Having said that, we can easily see that these Chinese manufacturers simply don’t necessarily have anyone to copy from Western manufacturers anymore, because they have evolved in an area where they are the first to innovate. Yes, the design has similar proportions to the Porsche Taycan, but it is not a direct copy. And what this Xiaomi manages to do on the chassis and digital side is exceptional for a first model with which this company is just entering the automotive world.
