May 2, 2024: National Youth Day. Every year, in Romania, a city is designated the capital of youth.

The anniversary of this day is realized by the text of Law no. 425/2004.

The legislative project regarding the decree marking this day was initiated in 2004, by 15 deputies from the parliamentary political formations.

Rejected by the Senate on April 1, 2004, the legislative proposal was adopted by the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, decision-making body, on October 5, 2004.

Law no. 425 regarding the establishment of the National Youth Day was adopted on October 25, 2004.

To mark this day, social, cultural, artistic and sports activities are organized and promoted, targeting the fields of interest of the youth.

The central and local public administration authorities that have attributions in the field of youth are involved in the material, financial and organizational support of the events dedicated to this day.

Starting from 2016, annually, a city from Romania represents the Youth Capital of Romania, similar to the European Youth Capital title.

It is about a national program aimed at young people, which aims to develop youth ecosystems in Romanian areas, in general, and in the urban environment, in particular.

The designation of this city is made following a concept contest, and this year the city of Ploiesti was designated.

The first city designated the Youth Capital of Romania was Timişoara, between May 2, 2016 and May 1, 2017.
