The Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) informs that the most emergency calls were made in Bucharest, where 31 trees fell due to the strong wind. The maneuvers in the Black Sea ports have been suspended, it is also said in the press release sent by the DSU.

In the context of the CODE ORANGE and CODE YELLOW warnings of meteorological phenomena aimed at sustained intensification of the wind, in the interval 02.04.2024, 08.00 – 02.04.2024, 13.00, effects were recorded in 17 localities in 13 counties (AB, BH, BT, BZ, CJ, DB, GR, HD, IF, MS, PH, SV and VL) and the municipality of Bucharest, where operative teams intervened/are intervening to clear 13 construction elements, 60 trees felled by the wind, 4 poles fell on the road, 3 houses, 1 annex and 16 cars were damaged.

At the same time, railway traffic was temporarily affected on highway 500 in Moara Nouă township in Prahova county due to fallen trees on the contact line.

Due to the strong wind, maneuvers in all Black Sea ports and crossings with ferry boats from Zimnicea/TR and Turnu Măgurele/TR to Bulgaria were suspended.

In terms of electricity supply, breakdowns were recorded in 7 localities in Harghita County, totaling approximately 1,531 unsupplied final consumers. At this moment, it intervenes to fix the faults.

The most emergency situations generated by the sustained intensification of the wind took place in the city of Bucharest where 31 trees fell, several construction elements were displaced from 6 apartment blocks, 1 billboard was destroyed, being damaged 12 cars.

According to ISU Vrancea, following the strong wind, the firefighters acted to clear some unstable roof elements and a tree that fell on a car, in the municipality of Focsani.

At the same time, they intervened to remove a person trapped under an agricultural solar, in the town of Cârligele, the victim being in cardio-respiratory arrest and undergoing resuscitation maneuvers by the SMURD crew. Later, the man was transported by an SAJ ambulance to the hospital, being in a coma.

Also, according to the electricity distribution company, in Vrancea county there are 43 localities not supplied with electricity, 13,218 subscribers being affected.

“The rescue firefighters remain on duty in support of the citizens and authorities in the areas under the incidence of the forecasted weather codes,” the quoted source added.

DSU specifies that information on how to behave in the event of emergency situations can be obtained by accessing the national emergency preparedness platform https://fiipregatit.ro and the DSU mobile application, which can be downloaded for free from the App Store and Google Play.

Orange code and yellow wind code, throughout the country

The National Meteorological Administration issued an orange Code of strong wind, in the time interval 8:00 – 18:00, in the counties of Satu Mare, Sălaj, Maramureş, Cluj, Alba, Bistriţa-Năsăud, Suceava, Neamţ and Botoşani, and especially in the afternoon in the Capital and in the counties of Teleorman, Giurgiu, Ilfov, Călăraşi, Ialomiţa, Prahova, Buzău, Brăila, but also in the continental area of ​​Constanţa and Tulcea counties, where the wind will blow at speeds, in general, of 80… 85 km/h.

The rest of the territory is affected, on Tuesday, by a Yellow Code warning of wind and storm intensification, valid between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The wind will have sustained intensification throughout the country, with speeds of 55…65 km/h, and locally 70…80 km/h. There will be storms in some places. In the high mountain area, gusts will exceed 90…110 km/h.
