The European minimum wage becomes mandatory for all countries in the European Union. It should come into effect on November 15 at the latest.

In Romania, the European minimum wage enters into force on July 1. Then, it will increase from 3300 gross lei to 3700 gross lei.

“The PSD assumes as a major political objective the implementation of the European minimum wage in Romania”

Yesterday, the social democrats announced that they assume as a major political objective the implementation of the European minimum wage in Romania, until the end of 2024.

“PSD assumes as a major political objective the implementation of the European minimum wage in Romania, by the end of 2024. In this sense, PSD specialists are already working on the development of a regulatory proposal, for the transposition into national legislation of the European Directive on adequate minimum wages in the Union European”, according to a press release.

The proposal will be made in collaboration with the Minister of Labor Simona Bucura-Oprescu.

“PSD believes that an automatic mechanism must be defined for the annual increase of the minimum wage in Romania, in a predictable manner, which guarantees the increase in the standard of living and purchasing power for all employees in Romania.

The increase in the minimum salary to 3,700 lei, announced by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu for July 1, 2024, will raise salary income to the appropriate level for the introduction of the automatic salary increase mechanism, according to the provisions of the European Directive.

PSD believes that any positive effect in the economy must also be reflected in the salary income of citizens. The introduction of the European minimum wage will be an important benefit especially for employees in the private sector, where there is the largest number of employees employed with this minimum salary level”, it is mentioned at the end of the release.
