The storm that swept everything in its path with gusts of 100 km/ha left behind disaster in many places in the country. In Buzău, where many people live by growing vegetables, the solariums and gardens are completely destroyed. As far as you can see the plants are planted on the ground.

  • Claudiu Breazu, vegetable grower: Yesterday the wind blew very, very hard. I think the gusts exceeded 100 or so kilometers per hour. 2,000 m is total damage. I have salad in this folder. Know that she is very affected by the wind. There are damages, they exceed 20,000. Yesterday there were only nylons in the field.
  • Preda Barbu, vegetable grower: I’m 68 years old, I’ve been in the garden for 50 or so years, but nothing like this has happened to me. It was a hurricane, I think it was 100 an hour. When the gusts of wind came, it took everything, it blew you aside. I tried to fix it, but I couldn’t, because you were flying with the foil completely. Here, with slats and everything, it costs me about 400 million. I have nowhere to go, I stay like this.

The storm wreaked havoc in Romania. The producers hope to obtain compensation from the agricultural directorates

And the Capital was swept by the storm all day. Firefighters and city hall employees were called in a few hours to more than 300 interventions. Most for downed trees, poles, panels and roofs. More than 30 drivers found their cars smashed in the parking lot. Fortunately, they were not injured.

The strong wind affected several old buildings in the Capital. Today, the firefighters uncovered the roof of the former Bragadiru Brewery after it was destroyed by yesterday’s storm.

While in the rest of the country the wind blew hard, there are still trojans of snow in the mountains. The machines intervene on the most spectacular section of Transalpina, between Rânca and Obârsia Lotrului, a piece of road that is closed every winter.

  • Diana Speretoiu, Observer reporter: If in other years, in the Păpuşa area, at an altitude of over 2,000 meters, the machines had difficulty cutting their way through the trojans, even four meters high, now the mission is no longer so difficult. In this area, for example, the snow cover is no more than one and a half meters.

From the drone, in the past you couldn’t tell where the road was, now you can see the parapets and even the clean asphalt.

  • Mărioara Băbu, animal breeder: I have been doing this route for over 47 years, there has never been less snow than this year. Soon, we have to take the herds up the mountain and, having no other way of access, we are forced to take this route.

Transalpina could open earlier this year

Tourists and locals alike are holding out hope that the road could open earlier than in other springs.

  • Cristi Tudor, representative of DRDP Craiova: We cannot give any deadline, we cannot say until we see on the spot, after the peak, we do not want to give hope.

Last year, the highest road in the country opened on June 16. Cyclone Nelson has moved away from us, but other storms continue to form. Their effects will be seen in the following days when summer-like rains are announced, especially in Transylvania and Moldova.
