Ukrainian Language and Literature Olympiad organized in Botosani

Between April 22-25, 2024, in Botoşani, the 30th edition of the National Olympiad of Ukrainian native language and literature will be held – the national stage, a prestigious event that aims to promote and support the Ukrainian language and culture.

The official opening of the Olympiad will take place on Monday, April 22, 2024, starting at 4:00 p.m., in the “Mihai Eminescu” conference room of the “Rapsodia City Center” hotel complex in Botoșani, a facility that will provide meals and accommodation for participating students and teachers companions throughout the competition.

The written tests will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the “AT Laurian” Botoșani National College, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The awards ceremony will take place on April 25, 2024, starting at 10:00 a.m., in the “Mihai Eminescu” Conference Hall of the “Rapsodia City Center” hotel complex.

“The National School Olympiads are important events in the Ministry of Education’s calendar, they encourage students to develop their skills and knowledge in various fields, but they also represent a recognition of the exceptional skills of the students and teachers involved. Participation in such an Olympiad not only stimulates excellence, but also contributes to the preservation and cultivation of cultural identity in a diverse educational context” said Bogdan Gheorghe Suruciuc, general school inspector of ISJ Botoșani.

68 students from the counties of Arad, Botoșani, Caraș-Severin, Maramureș, Satu-Mare, Suceava, Timiș, Tulcea and 8 accompanying teachers will participate in the national stage of the Olympiad. Participating students are of middle school and high school level and study Ukrainian as their mother tongue, a subject of study within the school curriculum. Part of the participating students, from the counties of Maramureș, Timiș and Suceava, come from high schools with teaching in the native Ukrainian language. The central commission will consist of 13 members.

“The organization of the Olympiad is coordinated by the Directorate of Minorities and Relations with the Parliament of the Ministry of Education, through the Botoșani County School Inspectorate, in accordance with the provisions of OMECTS no. 3035/2012 – Methodology-framework for organizing and conducting school competitions and OME no. 25333/14.02.2023 – Specific regulation on the organization and conduct of the Olympiad of Ukrainian native language and literature. The Olympiad is included in the Calendar of National School Olympiads – 2024, approved with OM no. 25221/08.02.2024″ pointed out Mr. Paul Bilocopetiuc, school inspector for the Ukrainian minority.

The Union of Ukrainians from Romania, a representative parliamentary organization of the Ukrainian community, is the main partner of the Botoşani County School Inspectorate in organizing this event.
