Depression and dementia, increasingly common diseases among the residents
“The days of sick leave received for temporary incapacity for work last year were more than 35,000 days of sick leave granted. As expected, most were for infectious and parasitic diseases, followed by tumors. Unfortunately, among those who apply for sick leave or even to be classified as disabled, there are also people with mental illnesses. Depression and dementia are increasingly common diseases among the people of Sălău”, says Ligia Marincaş.

The deputy director of the General Directorate for Social Assistance and the Protection of Children’s Rights Sălaj, Alexandru Bașa, talks about Romania’s aging population, but also about the significant increase in people diagnosed with dementia.
“We have a fairly significant increase in dementia, because, in general, the population of Sălaj is quite old, and age does not affect any of us. And here we have growth. If, maybe three years ago, we could go with 20 files, we have 25-30 files to request inclusion in order to evaluate and classify as a disability for senile dementia”, declared Alexandru Bașa.
Unfortunately, more and more patients with oncological conditions are also on the list of residents requesting medical leave, according to RRA.
